At Creaholic we kick start most of our projects with a workshop. Having completed over 650 projects during the last 25 years, we’ve become well practiced at getting the most out of a creative workshop

Over the years we have collected and developed a number techniques to help us efficiently manage the initial stages of a project. Some time ago we compiled these ‘tools’ and ‘rules’ into what we call our ‘gas phase toolkit’. A compendium of 60 different tools covering topics such as: preparation and planning, workshop moderation, brainstorm methods and idea evaluation.
Disturbing Factor
One such tool is called the ‘disturbing factor’. This tool reminds us that identifying the root of a problem is essential to defining a good project. We often find that when talking to a client about a potential project, they find it easiest to describe the ‘symptoms’ of a specific problem. This can disguise the real issue that needs resolving.
To avoid this, we find it valuable to spend time, before starting a project, to collaboratively identify the real cause of the problem (or what we call the ‘disturbing factor’). Once this has been identified, it’s much easier to create a valuable project brief which is the key foundation for any successful project.
