We describe our creative process by using the three phases of matter: gas, liquid and solid. This simple three-step approach includes time for creativity, time for analysis and ultimately the opportunity to transform radical ideas into reality.
The Gas PhaseThis is the early exploration phase where new thinking is divergent. We find the best way to approach a new challenge is with a high-energy creative workshop experience. This is the environment for dreams and ideas to collide, where we provide the foundation of inspiration for the project. A short, intensive ‘gas phase’ will generate multiple project possibilities quickly and efficiently. The output of this activity provides our clients with a clear view of the direction that their project can take. |
The Liquid PhaseThe focus of this phase is to refine possibilities and begin to make them tangible. In order to communicate and test our ideas we will visualise concepts and build prototypes or test rigs. Our thinking during this phase will begin to converge, however to keep the process iterative we may occasionally diverge our thinking to resolve specific issues. It is in this phase that we will also address usage, usability and efficiency and provide our clients with the results from testing or user feedback, as well as the technical feasibility and potential business impact of the project. |
The Solid PhasePractical and detailed aspects of the development are addressed in the ‘solid phase’. This is where we focus on all the details for the final design. We specify materials and create all the drawings and documentation required for implementation. We might help to manage production processes and liaise with manufacturers on behalf of our clients. We can help to find the right suppliers or even facilitate a new partnership. The ultimate goal of this phase is to deliver a new product, system or technology to the market. |
