The principle goal of our client, Krupp Presta, was to develop a better system for the collapsing of the steering column during an accident. This helps to reduce or even prevent any severe injuries caused by the impact of the steering wheel on the drivers’ body.

We were originally asked to think about a steering column that flipped downwards. However we considered the specification and proposed that we try to develop solutions that still enabled the driver a degree of control after impact. Working closely with our client we developed this collapsible steering column that was then incorporated into a series of BMWs.
