Thömus asked Creaholic to generate concepts, and then construct and realise a series of prototypes for a new battery locking system for the Stromer E-Bike. Like all E-bikes, it has a motor to power the bike, or to assist with pedalling. Stromer is the first E-Bike on the market with a quick exchangeable battery, integrated in the down tube of the bike’s frame. The result makes the bike appear lighter and more visually streamlined than other E-Bikes (which often resemble small mopeds). Most E-bikes have a range of 30-60 km, after which the battery has to be changed or recharged (recharging can take 3-4 hours). With many E-bikes specialist skills and appropriate tools are required to change the battery. However the new battery locking system enables quick and easy access, the battery can be exchanged with the turn of a key and the push of a button. This project was completed in a very short time span and has been on the market since September 2009. |
